Protectors never really clock out so we each have to figure out a way to decompress from time to time. FRs have a deep reservoir for the mental and emotional strain of the job, but our capacity for inhumanity, injustice, abuse, and suffering of others is not infinite. If we don’t reconcile it from time-to-time, we run the risk of losing compassion, interest, and judgment. We keep going by becoming numb or acting reckless to escape.
FR-Only Re-calibration Retreats focus on the natural human consequence of operating and on the reset or shifts that need to occur to continue doing the job well and living easily with loved ones. The 2-day (Sat-Sun) natural setting or nature based retreat is both mental and kinetic, allowing operators to reset before returning to life.
Re-connection Retreats (FR and Support Person)
As first responders (FRs), we often protect our loved ones by not sharing the tragedies, threats, and stress we are exposed to in our line of work. This well-intentioned silence, however, can make it challenging for our family members and friends to fully understand how our job both fulfills and wears on us.
To address this complex dynamic, we offer 3-day retreats (Friday to Sunday) that provide a unique blend of experiences designed to support first responders and foster understanding.
Field Journal
Sometimes hearing someone else’s perspective can remind us that we are not alone and that we might be able to handle things from a different approach. This realization is particularly valuable for first responders who often face unique challenges in their line of work. That is why operator blogs are offered.
Every Monday, a new submission is posted, adding to the archive of blogs from previous weeks. Each post is authored by a first responder – an operator in their field – who has borne the weight of service and has gained valuable perspective on how to think about and deal with the impact of their work.
A better-informed community allows those who serve it daily to feel more understood and welcomed. This mutual understanding is crucial for fostering a supportive environment for first responders and enhancing community relations.
This is why we offer awareness training outreach to vested civic organizations, agencies, mental health providers, clergy, and others who support first responders. We provide a no-nonsense understanding of the physical and emotional exposure hazards and the interplay between the compelling nature of the job and its impact on the human condition.
